Hi, my name is Calvin Visser, I was born in a little town, Bloemfontein, in South Africa. Now, you might be wondering what a guy from a town in the centre of South Africa is doing in Thailand. The answer is easy- I am living the Thai-life.
After school I found myself working at a cellular company doing the 9-5 thing, working weekends and staring at instagram posts of people travelling the globe and soaking in the world and all the colours and cultures that I was dreaming of. I saved up for a year and took the plunged, I resigned my job and was off to work on a Kibbutz for 8 months, I worked hard I enjoyed every moment of it, when I returned back to South Africa I was restless and was back on instagram day dreaming of far off places. So many of my friends were teaching in Thailand and China and I decided to investigate the possibilities of me doing the same. The more I researched the more Thailand graced my computer screen and I started obsessing over the country and culture.
A friend suggested that I contact an agency “Teach Thailand SOS Co.,Ltd.” in Thailand with regards to teaching. I sent them an email and quickly got a response from them. They were extremely helpful and application forms were sent to me, I was overwhelmed at the idea of teaching children who don’t speak much English so I enrolled to do a TEFL course in order for me to be more prepared. I can honestly say that doing this is what got me really excited about what I was about to embark on doing , TEACHING !!
After I had a Skype interview with my agency I got the good news that I was accepted to teach, before I could blink I was on a plane on my way to the land of smiles.
If I can walk this road to teaching I am sure you can too. It has been an amazing experience and I am looking forward to this journey.
